Bamboo Grove Final Post

1. I was fairly disappointed with the ending because there was still a lot to be explained. Hideyo finally found Ko and Yoko, but it was still unclear what happened to the father and if they ever got back their former, more comfortable, life. Also, they probably faced more hardships, I wanted to hear about that. Although, I think that Yoko decided to end the book there, because she was so happy, it seemed like it would be a happy ending, for her.

2. I think that they did the customs because they were brought up to do them, and also, the customs were some of the few things they had left, since they really didn't have anything anymore.

3. I admire Hideyo the most, because he had an amazing determination to see his family again, and he even walked through a snowstorm to find them again. He loved his sisters and mother, and that gave him a will to live that was beyond belief.

4. In this novel, I learned how evil communism really is, and how the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Communist China manipulated Korea by creating the Korean Communist Army. I also learned that the U.S.S.R. had acted cowardly when they declared war on Japan, because Japan had been weakened drastically by the atomic bombs dropped by the United States.

5. I learned that humans can be amazingly kind, but unbelievably cruel as well. I also learned that humans are very easily manipulated, as the Korean Communist Army was.
