Summary: The influx of Immigrants plunged to 175,000 in the 12-month period ending in March from a peak of 653,000 in 2005, based on analysis of Census data by Pew Hispanic. The number of entries has been decreasing steadily since mid-decade, according to the report.
This finding is supported by data from the U.S. Border Patrol showing the number of Immigrants caught trying to sneak into the U.S. has decreased. In 2008, border patrol agents apprehended 662,000 Immigrants, down from a 2004 peak of 1.1 million.
Reflection: I'm not very surprised to find that the number of immigrants coming to the U.S. is shrinking. With the job market, the economic crisis and our terrible health care, it seems to me like the immigration boom is finally coming to a close.
Evidence:
"The slowing of Mexican immigration to the U.S. is part of a broader trend, as migration flows around the world have also ebbed due to the global economic slowdown."
