Lord of the Flies Post #2

Chapter(s): 2
Character Perspective: Ralph
Group: 4

Conch

A fire. Isn't that just what we need? A fire to signal a ship. Putting that Beastie business aside, we should all make a fire. All this is what everybody thought at first, but the next thing you know, they all become errant and officious and I can't keep up with them, capering around like that. Next thing you know, they're all over the island in random places. Of course, I was excited as well, but I didn't run all the way down the mountain to look for wood like some of the little kids. Next thing you know, they throw on too much wood and burn down half the mountain, not to mention some little kids who's ebullience we'll never see again. But what really worries me is the tribe. The tribe is already dividing. Jack and Piggy never get along, and Jack has all the hunters behind him too. Piggy is being seperated from the tribe and Jack is getting too high in power. The only thing that's holding us together is the conch. But the only one who really uses the conch so much is Piggy, and no one will listen to him even then. Not only do they interrupt him, they go and steal his specs despite the fact he resisted and despite the fact he had the conch. This is all I want to know right now. How much power does the conch really have? And how much longer will it hold us together?
